Unleashing the Power of the Air Topper and Air Deck: A Comprehensive Review

Updated: Jul 8

We have been testing the Air Topper Mid Rise 6.5 and Air Deck 6.5 for a few weeks now. Our regular trailer build is currently out of our budget, so we needed a temporary solution for multi-day and overnight events. Additionally, we wanted a setup for disaster response, including supplies, aid, and mobile command, while ensuring ample transport space.

Quick Overview of the Air Topper Mid Rise 6.5

We did not produce an unboxing or installation video, as Flated offers numerous helpful videos. However, I can share our experience.

The installation was straightforward and only took about 30 minutes. This time includes unboxing and inflating the topper. Once it was inflated, it took just five minutes to secure it in place using the provided tie-downs.

Road Test Results

After installing the topper, I drove about 1,000 miles with it. I tested it in both city and highway conditions, facing storms, high winds, and extreme temperatures. Remarkably, nothing has phased this topper, even at speeds of up to 85 mph (safely achieved).

Build Quality and Performance

I've maintained the pressure at the minimum rating of 5 PSI since installation. It’s incredibly sturdy and has not lost any pressure over the past few weeks. There are no leaks or issues with the zippers or Velcro.

Interestingly, the topper stays significantly cooler than the truck's cab in direct sunlight. With large screened windows, it allows for a refreshing breeze on hot days. Moreover, the manufacturer is working on additional features for the tailgate to increase space and add a door.

The current setup still works exceptionally well for entering and exiting. We also use a mesh hunting screen to keep bugs out. Overall, this topper is ideal for events, festivals, emergencies, and more.

Convenience and Portability

One of the standout features of this topper is its portability. It folds up easily, which means you don't have to find storage for a bulky fiberglass topper. It's also lightweight, weighing around 30-40 pounds, making it easy for one person to set up.

Exploring the Air Deck 6.5

The Air Deck 6.5 shares many attributes with the Air Topper. Both products have the same high-quality, durable build. The Air Deck serves as a solid base for camping and provides 11-12 inches of storage beneath it for supplies.

Easy Installation Process

The Air Deck folds into a compact backpack, just like the Air Topper. The installation took about 10 minutes and is rated for the same pressure range of 5-8 PSI.

Note: For both the topper and the deck, I have used the supplied hand pumps. An electric pump is on its way, which should significantly speed up the inflation process.

Final Thoughts

Both the Air Topper and the Air Deck are outstanding products. Their high quality and ease of use make them worth the investment. As we continue to build out our setup, we’ll keep you updated on the performance of these items.
